Service Description

Painting Strategies This five week course is an instructor led studio workshop where students will complete one major work over a four week period with an open studio critique led by the instructor on the fifth session. There are four dates on the calendar with the critique date to be decided by the group. Class hours are devoted to studio time where students work on their piece for critique, supported by daily individual studio visits with the instructor and daily group conversations about the progress of the work. The course is designed for students hoping to understand the content and formal applications of their work in conversation with the history of art making. This class is designed for portfolio building, for students applying to college art programs, as well as artists that are looking to grow their understanding of maintaining a professional studio practice. About the Instructor “My goal as an instructor is to help students create work that is experiential for the viewer, rather than work that simply explains an experience.” Nehemiah Cisneros’ studio practice emphasizes storytelling through palette, mark-making, and iconography. Throughout the course, students will explore scale, mystery, and bravery in the stu- dio while preparing for the final critique. Nehemiah Cisneros earned his MFA in Painting from University of California, Los Angeles in 2024 and his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute in 2021. He is a professor of art at Santa Monica College. His work is in collection of the Rubell Museum, and MAC3: The Mohn Art Collective, owned and shared equally by LACMA, Hammer and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Nehemiah Cisneros is represented by Charlie James Gallery. Nehemiah Cisneros nehemiahcisneros@gmail.com www.nehemiahcisneros.com
