Service Description

Course runs from October 21st to November 18th (1-5th week) Final Crit on December 2nd (6th week) Tuesdays, 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Join artist Nehemiah Cisneros in an intimate instructor led 6 week course. Course will consist of seminar lectures on the history of narrative painting combined with demonstrations on strategies to visually engage in the process of world building in a studio practice. One of the main outcomes of the course is strengthening an artists ability to communicate story telling through painting and drawing, based on their individual interests and identity. Skill level: intermediate - advanced. Course highlights: - Developing a lexicon - We will create an written index of our individual interests in alphabetical order. Which we will apply to sourcing themes for our artwork. - Mapping - we will hand draw, chronologically an illustrated map of exciting moments throughout our life, as a means to visually conjure images of nostalgia and adventure to apply when sourcing themes related to the personal, historical and cultural significance of the human condition through our own lived experiences. - The Cartoon/Collage - Applying the antiqued method of designing a image for a painting, which relies on a simplified drawing/sketch of what the artist plans to execute on a larger scale. In addition to the Cartoon sketch, We will apply the process of collaging chosen references (photographs, images sourced from the internet, literature etc) together to strengthen the brainstorming process as we prepare for beginning a major work. - Idea to Action - we will begin creating a actual work of art, which students are encouraged to take home and continue on in their own practices. - Departing group conversation-During the final day we will have a round table discussing with each individual artist getting a set time to discuss their process and plans with their work, as we have a constructive group conversation about how we can help the individual artist achieve their creative vision with the work.
