Sat May 30th/ Sun May 31st, 10am - 3pm. Join artist Rose Tsang in a two day workshop on Intermediate Sculptural Basketry. Students will expand upon foundational basketry skills to construct larger, more complex sculptural forms using rattan reed and mixed materials. This workshop emphasizes structural problem-solving and advanced form-building, with techniques including the construction of armatures and asymmetrical bases, lashing, advanced twining (including turning and twisting), and combining multiple forms into a single cohesive sculpture. Finished forms may be further transformed with surface treatments such as kozo paper, animal gut, concrete, and acrylic paint. Completion of Introduction to Sculptural Basketry is encouraged, but students with prior experience in basic twining and random weave are also welcome. While introductory techniques will be reviewed, the pace of this class will be quicker in order to allow time for additional advanced methods and more independent exploration. Students are encouraged to bring unexpected found or foraged materials—such as yarn, tree twigs, chopsticks, skewers, electronic cables, wire, or even tennis or badminton rackets—to incorporate into their sculptures. Cancellation Policy
Studio Policies Payment in full is needed at the time of registration. Student cancellations more than 4 weeks in advance of a workshop are fully refundable, minus a 20% processing fee. Cancellations 2-4 weeks in advance are 50% refundable, minus a 20% processing fee. There is no refund for cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the workshop. The only exception to this policy is if your spot can be filled from a waitlist, in which case you will receive your refund minus a 20% processing fee. If a workshop is cancelled by an Instructor for any reason you will receive a full refund, unless you prefer to apply your payment to another workshop.
